The Christmas We Forget: "Hope"

Randy Christian

If you were to ask people to sum up the “Christmas Spirit” in one word, “hope” would certainly be among the favorite responses. This hope isn’t just modern sentiment born from our need. It was part of the Christmas story from the very beginning. The Christmas event was the fulfillment of hope for the Jewish people—a way to overcome the oppression of the Gentiles who had ruled them for centuries. But the irony is it was also the fulfillment of hope for the Gentile oppressors as well. The Christmas event was and is the introduction of hope for the entire world—a hope that God has something better in store for us than what we have made for ourselves.

Is Jesus Necessary? "Is Jesus Necessary?"

Randy Christian

The answer to that question seems pretty obvious—particularly to someone who considers herself “Christian”.  But stop and think about it.  If Jesus is “necessary”, what are the implications?  What does that say about life after this body gives out?  What does it say about how I interact with people who do not believe in Jesus?  What does it say about how—and why—I decide what to think, do and say?  Does my life really show that I believe Jesus is necessary, or does my life say “Jesus might be a good idea”?

Christian?: "What is 'Christian'?"

Randy Christian

Surveys consistently show 75-80% of the people in the US consider themselves “Christian”.  Of course, those surveys fail to define what they mean by “Christian”.  Is there a clear definition of “Christian”?  Is one person’s opinion as good as another’s?  We believe there is an authoritative answer to “What is Christian?”, and it is found in scripture.

Easter 2017: "Bad News, Good News"

Randy Christian

The phrase “gospel” means “good news” and the Easter holiday celebrates that Good News.  But the good news only makes sense in the context of the Bad News.  In order for a person to accept the good news and respond to it, they have to understand and accept the bad news.

Parables of Jesus: "Is This All There Is?"

Randy Christian

Every human being has one thing in common -- there will come a time when his life on earth ends. Sounds heavy -- even somber -- but it is true. So the question is, what then? And does anything that we do now affect what happens then? Jesus gave us the answer in a story.

Christmas Is - Grace

Randy Christian

To understand Christmas, we have to first understand that Christmas is Grace! But “grace” is a “church word” — a word that is used in church gatherings by people who rarely can define or explain it to each other, much less to those in the world around them. We need to understand grace — and the inherent link between Christmas and grace. Because Christmas is grace!

I BELIEVE - In Salvation

June 1, 2014Randy Christian

Christians in the U.S. are finding that talking about being “saved” just isn’t popular anymore. Saved from what? Do we really believe we need to be SAVED? In the 21st century do we really believe people without Jesus are condemned to Hell? It’s pretty hard to read the Bible and accept Jesus as anything short of an idiot if we don’t. On this day we’ll explore what the Bible says we need to be saved from and why—and most importantly, How!
